Auld Reekie Notebook

'Auld Reekie' is an old nickname for Edinburgh, and though it's commonly misunderstood as referring to a foul smell, it actually means 'Old Smoky' in Scots. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the capital was known for its thick smoke and fog, due to the large number of coal-burning fires in the city's densely packed Old Town. In the summer months, Edinburgh is often bathed in a cold sea fog, locally referred to as 'the haar,' creating misty conditions that hark back to its past as 'Auld Reekie'.

This notebook is inspired by this charming moniker for Scotland's capital. The black and grey colouring of the notebook evokes the stone and cobbles of Edinburgh's Old Town, and the patterned stripes represent us - Paper Tiger!
